July 4th - Annual 5K Race & Freedom Fest

A long-standing tradition in Greenwood is the Annual Freedom Fest on the Square on July 4th each year.  The community-wide old fashioned picnic and games begins early in the morning with a Pancake Breakfast at the Masonic Lodge and the Chamber's Freedom 5K run. There are winners of all ages during the Annual Freedom 5K run. Hundreds of people come each year to run in this fun spirited event. Check the Chamber Event Calendar for exact event times.

Following the run, the Square is filled with music, games and food booths, and fun!

People of all ages enjoy the day, especially the opportunity to visit with friends and meet visitors and new comers to the town.  We end the night with a fireworks display that will live in your memory for a lifetime! Freedom Fest has earned a reputation of family entertainment.  No alcohol is allowed and food booths are sponsored by non-profit organizations.

This event is made possible by donations of money and time by Greenwood area businesses, Greenwood's A&P Commission, and the City of Greenwood.

August - Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

August is a time we honor our extremely hard-working, teachers and staff within the Greenwood school District at our Teachers Appreciation Luncheon just days before the school year begins.  Our community is blessed to have such an amazingly talented group of individuals to work with our children and make a positive imprint on their lives each year.

It's wonderful how our businesses get together, sponsoring tables of 8 each, and showing our entire District how much we appreciate their impact on our future generations.  Just another reason to love Greenwood!

Fall & Winter

September - City-Wide Yard Sale

Held on third Saturday of the Month, the City-Wide Yard Sale has become an annual event for the Chamber and local residents.  People come from all over to look for bargains at over 100 different yard sales throughout the town.  The Town Square is transformed into yard sale heaven by local non-profit organizations that use the space to have yard sales to raise funds for their group.  This event is a big economic boost for the City of Greenwood.

October - Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet

One of the highlights of the year is the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet in October.  The banquet gives Members an opportunity to get together and meet the new Board of Directors and offices.

One of the long-standing traditions of the Chamber is to recognize a Citizen of the Year.  Each year a committee takes on the hard task of choosing among many deserving citizens to receive this award.  This award is a small token of thanks to people who over many years have contributed to the betterment of the community.  Many past Citizens of the Year have been influential in the lives of youth, volunteered hundreds of hours each year to non-profit organizations, and/or has been a long-standing leader in Greenwood.

December - "Hometown Holiday Celebration" & Christmas Parade

Held the first Monday in December, one of the largest Christmas Parades in the entire River Valley takes place in Greenwood.  Thousands of people turn-out for the evening. This is more than just a typical Christmas parade with a few floats and Santa Claus.

Prior to the parade, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce hosts its traditional "Bean Feed" where we serve, free of charge, over 50 pounds of deliciously prepared ham and bean soup with homemade cornbread.  The parade, brightly lit, travels down Main Street and has consisted of more than 80 entries. Santa is always on hand and ready to visit with children after the parade when he makes his infamous arrival on the Fire Truck!

These are just a few of the events sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.  Watch the Chamber Event Calendar for additional listings to come.  The Chamber welcomes volunteers interested in community projects.
